Moroccan Mint Tea

Gotta give some love to the "Moroccan whiskey," as they so fondly refer to it... they drank this stuff constantly in every town I visited. I stayed with a family for a while, and here's how they prepared it: boil a pot of water. Turn off fire and add a couple of tea bags (they used a certain French brand, but any brown, English-style tea should do), let steep for about 3 minutes. Add a large bundle of fresh mint to the pot, let steep for an additional 2-3 minutes. Add LOTS of sugar, enough so that you really notice the sweetness when you taste with the spoon, and stir. Serve from bent-necked teapot by splashing from height of 3+ feet (so that you get a froth on top) into a glass that is not unlike a tall shot glass. May require practice. Enjoy! Brush teeth afterwards :)

  • Typically I freebase, huff, mainline espresso....but I have to agree, Moroccan Mint Tea is like crack...once you have had it, you always seek more. London - Bayswater has a couple of Moroccan restaurants...and when you are walking around and a bit chilled - there is nothing like this amazing liquid filtering into your system.
